Breeze aims to create meaningful real-life connections. To do this, users are held accountable for their online and offline behavior. These user guidelines (Guidelines) are part of our User Terms (Terms) and outline what is acceptable content and behavior, how we enforce them, and how users can report breaches or appeal to our decisions herein.

As a general principle, if there is any doubt about a breach of these Guidelines, we will take action while allowing the user to explain. In a dating context, protecting users’ safety and feelings thereof takes priority over fairness. If claims are difficult to verify, we often uphold our decision to prevent potential harm rather than risk overlooking a threat.

All dating profiles undergo verification to ensure a basic standard of etiquette and compliance with our Terms. In cases of doubt, we may require users to take a selfie or provide documents to verify their compliance and get active.

We also recognize that not all users have the same abilities or circumstances. If you need support using Breeze due to a disability or health condition, you can request a reasonable accommodation via our Accessibility page

Please also review our Safety tips on some best practices regarding safer dating.

The Guidelines are categorized into three levels, and their violation is treated differently:

  • Basic Etiquette – considered a minor violation
  • Standard Requirements – considered a moderate violation
  • Zero-Tolerance Rules – considered a serious violation

These guidelines apply to all the content – the text and media (such as photos and videos) – that users publish on our platform, as well as the behaviour on the platform and externally (online and offline). It could be the case that specific behavior and/or content does not strictly fall within one of these three categories. However, when, after careful consideration, our moderators deem such content or behavior to violate the spirit of Breeze and/or our Guidelines or otherwise to be illegal, inappropriate, or harmful, we reserve the right to take the appropriate action in line with these Guidelines.

Due to the subjective nature of verifying external claims, we reserve the right to act upon allegations even when there is doubt about their validity. Affected users can contest actions taken against them – see our Procedure for Objections.

1. Basic Etiquette

1.1 Present yourself clearly, genuinely, and appropriately on your profile

1.1.1. Do not use altered, AI-generated, or visually misleading media
For instance, don’t use photos or videos:

  • with (large) overlaid symbols, text or stickers (such as memes).
  • with heavy digital distortion, such as excessive filters, effects (e.g. bunny ears) or altered body proportions.
  • which are generated or altered using artificial intelligence (AI) such as LLMs, for example to:
    • make yourself look better, younger, or significantly different from your actual appearance.
    • impersonate or dishonor someone else.

AI-altered images are permitted if they are clearly artificial, humorous in nature, and do not mislead others about your actual appearance. For example, placing yourself in a funny fictional scenario is acceptable as long as it's obviously not real and doesn't alter your physical features.

1.1.2. Be clearly recognizable on your profile media
You must have at least one clear, unobstructed photo where your face is fully visible and easily recognizable. Beyond this requirement, you may include some artistic or stylized photos where you are less recognizable.

You need to be visible and recognizable in at least half of the photos on your profile, with at least one clear face photo. For instance, don’t only use photos and videos:

  • that are from a long time ago.
  • with others, such that it is unclear which person you are.
  • where your eyes are not clearly visible due to dark sunglasses or heavily tinted glasses (lightly tinted prescription glasses are acceptable if eyes remain visible).
  • where the majority of your face or head is obscured by hats, hoods, masks, scarves, or other items.

Photos with face obstructions (such as mirror selfies where a phone covers part or all of your face, or wearing hoods/caps that don't hide your facial features) are acceptable as supplementary photos, provided you have at least one other photo with your face completely unobstructed. The key is that your facial features (eyes, nose, mouth) should be clearly visible in your primary photos.

1.1.3. Give a good image through sufficient variation in the profile media
To have your profile published, we require at least 3 photos and/or videos. To give a good impression, there should be enough variation in the settings where these photos/videos are taken and the poses that you take on the photos/videos. Additional photos of scenes, pets, hobbies, or activities are welcome but don't count toward this requirement.

For instance, only having 3 headshots or photos taken in the same location is insufficient.

1.1.4. Use high-resolution profile media
Ensure that enough photos have a “high resolution”, measured in pixels per inch (ppi). This helps to present a clear and sharp image of yourself.

1.1.5. Avoid inappropriate or disturbing profile media
For instance, don’t use photos or videos:

  • that would be widely considered inappropriate or overly suggestive. Normal casual clothing like tank tops, braless tops, and typical summer wear is perfectly acceptable.
  • where you are in underwear only (without other clothing). Shirtless photos are generally acceptable in any setting.
  • that suggest or imply nudity, even if the nudity itself is outside the frame.
  • that show obscured naked parts, for instance, through blurring or using emojis.
  • that show real or realistically appearing blood, bodily fluids, or injuries.

1.1.6. Use an authentic representation of the first name you use
Use your real first name or a variant that is an authentic representation of the name you are known by in everyday life. Refrain from adding (part of) your surname to your first name. Don’t use special characters (e.g. @, *) or emojis unless you can provide evidence that this is your real name.

2. Standard requirements

2.1 Be truthful and respectful in your interactions and with your content

2.1.1 Provide accurate information and don’t mislead others
Represent yourself honestly in all interactions, do not try to deceive others, and remain truthful in your communication. Creating profiles to harass, defame, or spread false information about others is not allowed. Only provide personal information that is accurate and does not attempt to mislead others regarding your intentions, characteristics, or life circumstances.

If you are in a non-monogamous relationship or seek an extramarital relationship, it should be with consent (ethical) and it should be on your profile. Profiles of couples are not allowed on Breeze.

2.1.2 Be considerate and respectful during interactions and dates
Be considerate of others, which includes, but is not limited to: leaving the date without communicating first, leaving dates abruptly without communication, sending misleading information in the pre-date chat, and attempting to rearrange the date location in the pre-date chat and keeping someone waiting without informing them you will be late. Additionally, do not record audio, video, or take photos of the other person without their explicit consent.

2.1.3. Avoid discriminatory content, hate speech or extremist content
Content that could be deemed as discrimination and/or extremism (based on race, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, class, age, disability, or religion) is explicitly forbidden and should be removed. Moreover, do not wish, encourage, or praise any acts of violence or threatening behavior that could lead to harm.

2.1.4 Use the reporting system truthfully and with integrity
Only report legitimate concerns that violate the platform’s rules. When you report a user, you will be asked to confirm that your report is truthful. Abusing this feature may lead to unfair warnings and bans, which seriously impact users' trust in the platform.

2.1.5 Don’t try to circumvent guidelines by temporarily adapting your profile Profiles that are temporarily adjusted to meet our basic etiquette rules – such as changing your name, photos, or description – only to later revert to content that does not meet the guidelines, are not allowed. These tactics undermine the trust and integrity of the platform. Continued participation on Breeze requires that your profile consistently aligns with the community standards outlined in these guidelines.

2.2 Avoid deceptive, aggressive, or unauthorized content

2.2.1 Avoid commercial and/or promotional content
Commercial solicitations or advertisements are not permitted. This includes any promotion of external products, services, or websites through URL links or mentions – in principle, all websites or other external digital properties are prohibited unless it is relevant and solicited by other users.

Also, recruiting users for commercial endeavors, including multi-level marketing schemes or any form of unsolicited promotional activity, is strictly prohibited.

2.2.2 Avoid content that incites hatred or violence
For instance, don’t use photos or videos that incite hatred, such as showing aggression or firearms (except for law enforcement or military personnel).

2.2.3 Respect third-party rights and avoid sharing others’ data
Do not post content protected by intellectual property, such as photos that are not your own or for which you have no permission to use and do not post personal data about others without their consent.

2.2.4 Avoid confusing profile composition with unidentified individuals
Don't include photos of random people without yourself visible in them or captions indicating who they are in relation to you. Photos featuring other people should make it obvious whether they are friends, family members, or clearly distinguish them from you as the profile owner.

2.3 Respect others' privacy and our communication boundaries

2.3.1 Do not share contact information before the date
Refrain from including personal contact details such as phone numbers, email addresses, or social media handles on your public profile or in direct messages before the chat opens a few hours before the date.

2.3.2 Only contact users outside the platform with consent
You are not allowed to search and reach out to users via other platforms. Users appreciate their privacy and being in control of whether they want to connect. The only exception is when, after the date, both users indicate they want to share contact details.

2.3.3 Respect other users’ privacy
Do not share or disclose the private information of other users without their explicit consent. This includes screenshots of their profile and the match, conversations, personal contact details, and private photos.

2.4 Handle content regarding minors responsibly and respectfully

2.4.1. Only use photos of minors if you have permission
Only use media of minors if you are their legal guardian or when you have explicit consent from their legal guardian. When you upload photos containing minors, we assume that the child is either your child, a child you are the legal guardian of, or that you have explicit consent from their legal guardian.

Captions such as “This is my child” may only be used if the child is actually your child or a child you are the legal guardian of.

We assume you have permission for all photos you upload. If we later discover that you do not have proper permission to use photos of a minor, you will be required to remove the photo immediately and you will receive a formal warning.

2.4.2. Ensure minors are completely clothed and not pictured alone
If pictures of a minor are shown on your profile, they cannot appear alone in the image and must be completely clothed. A photo of yourself alone as a child is only allowed when this is clear through the context or caption of the photo, for example, using: “I promise, I’ve grown since”. Similarly, a appropriate photo of your child is allowed when using “This is my child”.

If the photo contains someone else’s child, you must also appear in the photo yourself and have permission from the child’s legal guardian to use the image.

2.4.3. Do not publish content that promotes, supports, or glorifies pedophilia or harming minors
You are not allowed to publish any content could reasonably be interpreted as encouraging pedophilia, sexualization of minors, or harm toward minors.

2.5 Behave respectfully and non-violently

2.5.1. Use respectful, non-discriminatory language
Always communicate respectfully with other users, our employees, and personnel at our partnered venues. Avoid language that could be seen as discriminatory or insulting based on personal attributes such as race, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, class, age, disability, religion, or other personal characteristics. Don’t place provocative statements on your profile unless they are authentic and vulnerable statements about your preferences.

2.5.2 Refrain from making users feel uncomfortable
You must respect the personal space, boundaries, and preferences of other users at all times.

Behavior that makes another user feel unsafe or uncomfortable is unacceptable — regardless of intent. What may seem harmless to one person can feel intimidating or unsettling to another.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Using threatening or intimidating language
  • Displaying aggressive or physically imposing behavior
  • Invading someone’s personal space without consent
  • Ignoring or pushing past clearly communicated boundaries
  • Emotional manipulation or outbursts
  • Pressuring someone to share personal information or continue a date when they wish to leave

We take all reports of discomfort seriously.

2.5.3 Arrive at dates in an appropriate condition Appearing visibly intoxicated or under the influence of drugs during a date is unacceptable. Being under the influence can create an uncomfortable atmosphere and show a lack of respect for the other person. We understand that having a drink during a date is normal social behavior; this guideline addresses arriving already intoxicated or becoming heavily intoxicated to the point where it negatively impacts your date's experience and comfort.

2.6 Honor your commitments and notify in case of cancellations

Cancelling less than 4 hours before is not acceptable without a valid emergency
If you commit to a date through Breeze, we expect you to honor that commitment. Should you need to cancel, you must do so as early as possible. Cancellations made within 4 hours of the scheduled time are only acceptable in case of a genuine, last-minute emergency.

3. Zero-Tolerance rules

3.1 Explicit sexual content and sexual solicitation are forbidden

3.1.1. Explicit sexual content and sexual solicitation on Breeze are forbidden
Posting or sharing explicit sexual content, including nudity, sexual acts, or sexually suggestive imagery, is strictly prohibited. This includes explicit outlines of genitals, visible genitals or pubic regions, and bare buttocks.

Additionally, soliciting any form of sexual services — whether for monetary exchange or not — is also forbidden. This includes advertising, buying, or selling adult sexual content, as well as profile text that could be interpreted as an invitation for sexual activities or transactions.

Only general references to personal interests or preferences (e.g., mentioning “kinky stuff”) without explicit detail or solicitation are permitted.

3.1.2. Sending unsolicited explicit sexual content is forbidden
Sending unsolicited explicit sexual messages, images, or videos to other users – whether before, during, or after the first Breeze date – is strictly prohibited. This includes graphic descriptions of sexual acts, unsolicited intimate images, or any sexually explicit content without clear mutual consent. Consensual conversations about intimacy may develop naturally, but sending explicit content without mutual interest or consent will result in an immediate ban from the platform.

This also extends to messages sent to our support team or employees; any explicit sexual content sent to Breeze staff will be treated with the same severity.

3.2 Impersonation, fake profiles, fraud, and scams are forbidden

3.2.1. Impersonation or fake profiles are forbidden
Each user is permitted a single profile that must accurately represent them. Impersonation of any other person, celebrity, or fictional character is forbidden.

3.2.2. Attempts to scam, manipulate, or deceive financially are forbidden
This includes anything related to financial or material gain, such as (indirectly) asking for money, lying about your intentions for financial benefit, or pretending to have (romantic) interest to deceive members into giving financial or material support or to otherwise harm individuals or conduct illegal activity.

3.3 Platform manipulation or hacking is forbidden

Any attempts to artificially influence the platform by hacking, injecting scripts, or using automation are strictly prohibited.

3.4 Violation of the Terms and illegal content or conduct are forbidden

3.4.1. Underaged accounts or presenting as underaged are forbidden
In any circumstances, we don’t allow profiles that violate Article 2.1 of our Terms. You can’t be under 18 for the EU & UK and under 21 for the US, or create a profile that misrepresents you as under 18 (or 21 for the US). In case of doubt, we reserve the right to verify your age by asking for your ID.

If we later discover that you have lied about your age – hereby having violated our minimum age in the past – we will also not allow access after you are above the minimum age.

3.4.2. Accounts that performed misconduct on other platforms are prohibited
Actions taken on other platforms that violate these guidelines may influence determinations on this platform. This includes receiving bans or significant negative feedback on other dating apps due to violations of similar rules.

3.4.3. Sharing or promotion of illegal content or actions is forbidden
Do not publish any content that is illegal or promotes illegal actions. This includes but is not limited to content involving illegal drug use, theft, fraud, and other criminal activities. Ensure that all content complies with local, national, and international laws.

3.4.4. Creating or using multiple accounts to evade consequences is forbidden Users are only permitted to have one account on Breeze, which must accurately represent them (see 3.2.1). Creating, maintaining, or using multiple accounts, for example to evade a warning, ban, suspension, or other enforcement action, or to otherwise gain an unfair advantage on the platform, is strictly prohibited. If we determine that a new or existing account was created to circumvent a previous consequence, all associated accounts will be permanently banned.

3.5 Harassment, stalking, and abusive behavior are prohibited

3.5.1. Any form of abuse and harassment related to the date is prohibited
Any form of abuse, harassment, discrimination, bullying, or threatening behavior towards other users whilst on a Breeze date is strictly prohibited. A Breeze date lasts from when the pre-date chat opens to exchanging phone numbers after the date.

  • On-date harassment that is violent and/or aggressive, or when there is non-consensual touching/kissing on more than one occasion, i.e., the person has already said no, will result in being banned from our platform.
  • On-date harassment, i.e., touching/kissing where there is a miscommunication, will result in being given a warning on our platform.

3.5.2. Having a recent history of physical or sexual abuse is prohibited
Any form of physical and/or sexual abuse that is reported while using our platform is strictly prohibited. This also includes behavior before being on our platform. This includes but is not limited to: sexual abuse, domestic violence, and stalking of a severe nature (i.e., somebody has been reported to the police or convicted of stalking).

Convictions and allegations of physical violence will be taken into consideration for up to 10 years. Convictions and allegations of sexual violence have no time limit.

3.5.3. Having a history of criminal activity or gang-related violence is prohibited
Users with prior prison sentences and gang-related criminal violence within the last 10 years are strictly prohibited on our platform. Unique exceptions can be made if you show positive signs of rehabilitation.

3.5.4. Stalking behavior or harassment on other platforms is prohibited
We take stalking and persistent unwanted contact seriously, even if it occurs outside of Breeze. If you attempt to track, follow, or contact another user through external platforms (such as social media or messaging apps) without their consent, especially after they have set boundaries or ended contact, this will be considered harassment. Reports of stalking behavior may lead to a warning or a permanent ban, depending on the severity. If the behavior involves legal action or serious distress, it will be treated with zero tolerance.

3.6 Not showing up or frequently cancelling dates is unacceptable at Breeze

3.6.1. Failing to show up for a confirmed date without notice is a serious violation
Not showing up to a confirmed date without informing the other party is strictly prohibited. It not only damages trust in the community but also wastes someone’s time, effort, and possibly money after they have traveled to the agreed location. This behavior shows a lack of basic respect and significantly undermines trust in our service.

3.6.2. Frequently cancelling planned dates has consequences
Breeze is designed for people who are serious about meeting in person. Repeatedly cancelling scheduled dates disrupts the experience for others and goes against the Breeze culture of commitment and follow-through. Users who cancel frequently may have their accounts temporarily frozen (i.e. suspended). The more frequently a user cancels, the longer the freeze period will be.

If a user cancels an extremely high proportion of their confirmed dates relative to the number of dates they’ve actually attended, Breeze reserves the right to permanently remove that user from the platform. Before a ban is enforced, you will receive a clear warning indicating that another cancellation may result in permanent removal.

4. Moderation procedure

Moderation by Breeze before publishing your profile

Once your profile is finished, we will review your photos, videos, and text to ensure they meet the Guidelines. Based on this review of your profile content:

  • If it complies with all the guidelines, it will be approved. We may still provide feedback to help you be successful on the platform.
  • Upon a minor violation, your profile won’t be published. You will be asked to adjust your profile before you're shown to other users.
  • Upon a moderate violation, your profile will receive a formal warning and remain unpublished until compliant. Upon a second warning, you will be directly banned from the platform.
  • For a serious violation, your account will be banned from the platform.

Once you have improved or changed your profile, it will be re-evaluated. We reserve the right to (continue to) check if your profile meets our Guidelines, and take the actions as we deem appropriate.

Repeated resubmissions of non-compliant profiles

If a profile is resubmitted for approval without sufficiently addressing the reasons for rejection, we reserve the right to escalate our response. This applies to users who repeatedly and consecutively resubmit their profile without making meaningful changes in line with our feedback:

  • After 10 consecutive rejections due to non-compliance, the user will receive a formal warning.
  • After 15 consecutive rejections, the account will be permanently banned from the platform.

This policy is intended to address users who persistently resubmit a non-compliant profile in a short period of time. It does not apply to users who, after a longer period of inactivity, update their profile and resubmit it for approval in good faith.

Moderation following user reports

When we receive a user report, we will take this seriously and conduct a thorough manual review based on these Guidelines. Similarly, we’ll act based on how heavy the violation is:

  • Upon a minor violation, you will be asked to make changes before being published again.
  • Upon a moderate violation, you will be given a warning and required to make changes before being published again. Your profile is not visible to other users until you make sufficient changes to your profile. Upon a second moderate violation at some later point, you will be permanently banned from the platform.
  • Upon a serious violation, you will be directly banned from the platform.

Some examples of how the Guidelines apply to some behavior:

  • If your profile contains inappropriate visuals or misleading text, it will be unpublished until corrected (see guideline 1.1.1).
  • If you contact users off-platform without consent and are reported, you may receive a warning or be banned if previously warned (see guideline 2.3).
  • If you upload sexually explicit content (e.g. dick pics), you will be banned immediately (see guideline 3.1).

We aim to respond to reports within 24 hours. However, where more serious or offline behavior is reported, we may temporarily suspend the reported user and allow up to 14 days to respond before making a final decision. If no response is provided within that period, we may still decide in favor of the reporting party.

If it is one word against the other, we weigh the likelihood of the claim and the consequences (if true) to both users and Breeze against each other.

In general, we weigh the safety of our daters more heavily than the right to use the platform. In other words, we are rather safe than sorry with removing (suspected) malicious users from our platform. If you believe an action was taken on false claims, you may always file an objection (see below).

When we take action on a report, the category of the violation will be shared with the reported user. To protect the privacy of the reporter:

  • Only the main category for each severity level will be disclosed to the reported user.
  • The identity of the reporter and the elaboration the reporter provided are shared only with Breeze and will not be provided to the reported user.

We strongly encourage you to provide an elaborate explanation when reporting a user, so we can make the best decision possible.

You may withdraw a report at any time by contacting the Helpdesk in the App or by emailing help@breeze.social. If appropriate, we will reverse any actions taken based on that report.

Notification procedure

If you wish to report content or behavior that violates these Guidelines, you can do so via the app, the Helpdesk or by emailing help@breeze.social.

If you email us, make sure it contains the following information:

  1. Reason for reporting: explain why you believe the content or behavior is illegal or in breach of our Guidelines.
  2. Location of the content or behavior: the exact location of the content or behavior must be indicated, such as the specific profile.
  3. Contact information: provide your name and email address, unless the report concerns severe criminal offenses.
  4. Statement of good faith: only report information that is accurate and complete.

Your notification will be reviewed thoroughly by the Breeze team. We may contact you to request additional information or clarification to better understand the nature of your notification. Where another user is involved, we may also contact that user to hear their story.

We aim to resolve your notification within 14 business days. Once we have concluded our investigation, we will provide you with a detailed response that includes:

  • Our findings regarding the notification;
  • Any actions we have taken in response; and
  • Suggestions for how similar issues may be avoided in the future.

Please note that where another user is involved, that user may have a response to our statement of reasons.

Please note that you should not submit inaccurate notifications. In such cases, depending on the seriousness of the breach, we may issue you a warning. If you do not adhere to this warning, we will suspend you from our platform for a reasonable period of time.

Objections to our violation decisions

If you believe a decision we've made based on our Guidelines is incorrect, you can file an objection to that decision.

  • For minor violations (where your profile has been unpublished without a warning or ban), send a message to the Helpdesk in the app. Mention the decision you're objecting to and why.
  • For warnings and bans, the notification you received about the decision contains a link to a form where you can submit your objection. If you can't find the notification, reach out to the Helpdesk to get the link.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • You can only object to how a rule has been applied in your case, not to the rule itself.
  • If your objection concerns behavior or content outside the app, we may ask you to provide evidence (e.g., to refute false claims or defamatory statements made about you).

We'll strive to address every objection promptly and fairly. Our support team aims to respond to your complaint within 14 business days.

  • For objections regarding minor violations, you'll receive a reply in the Helpdesk once the review is complete.
  • For objections submitted via the form, you'll receive the outcome at the email address you provided.

If we find that the original decision was incorrect, we'll reverse the decision and provide a resolution to reverse the effects.

Complaint handling procedure

After we take a decision against you, you have the right to file a complaint within 6 months after a decision has been made, starting from the day you have been notified of the decision.

Send your complaint to complaints@breeze.social. In this email, you should include your account details (the phone number or email linked to your account), the decision you are complaining about and the reason for your complaint. We aim to respond within 14 business days of receiving your complaint.

Dispute resolution

For the resolution of disputes arising within the framework of our internal complaint handling system, for example, if you do not agree with the outcome of your complaint or our handling of your complaint, Breeze provides the option of out-of-court dispute resolution through an approved alternative dispute resolution entity.

Approved alternative dispute resolution entities are impartial and independent bodies expressly approved by EU member states, possessing the requisite capacity and expertise to investigate disputes brought before them.
